High temperatures place extra stress on a vehicle, especially in stop-and-go traffic. Heat can worsen weak batteries, under-inflated tyres and cooling-system problems before a driver sees an obvious warning.
What to keep in mind
- Check coolant level only when the engine is cool and inspect for leaks.
- Maintain correct tyre pressure; both under- and over-inflation increase risk.
- Test a slow-starting battery before it fails in traffic.
- Use shade where possible and wash contaminants from the paint.
If the temperature gauge rises or the vehicle loses coolant, stop safely and arrange diagnosis rather than continuing to drive.
